Pinterest iPhone App Review

The popular social sharing site Pinterest is now portable with an iPhone app (iTunes Link) published by Cold Brew Labs. This immensely popular app allows Pinterest users to quickly and easily access Pinterest on the go. As of February 8 the app was number 6 in the “Top Free” section of the App Store.

Whether you’re looking to just browse around or seeking inspiration for something specific, Pinterest can be used for many purposes such as searching for wedding ideas or finding recipes. Similar to Tumblr, users can actively share (or repin) posts, “like” posts, and leave comments. You can also organize pins into boards, allowing you to easily keep track of everything you enjoy.

The app is designed to let users browse Pinterest through individual tabs. “Following” shows you a time line of pins by people you are following. Under each post there are options to repin or like the post, along with more options such as commenting on the post or sharing it outside of the app.

The “Explore” tab allows easy browsing of Pinterest categories, along with a search field. Here you can easily view all recent pins posted in batch form. If you are an avid Pinner, you’ll love the built-in camera function, giving you the opportunity to quickly snap photos and upload them to the website. You can even customize your photos by swiping your finger along the screen to change the brightness and tone of the picture before posting it.

The “Activity” tab gives you an overview of your pins and shows any interactions made by other users (likes, repins, and so on).

Lastly, the “Profile” tab is a summary of your account. It shows your followers, how many people you’re following, pins you’ve created & repinned, your likes, and your boards.

Currently you can only create a Pinterest account via invitation, which you can sign up for through their website or receive from a friend who is a Pinterest user.

Pinterest (iTunes Link) is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.0 or later.
