FxGuru: Movie FX Director is an iPhone app developed by Picadelic. If you want to add crazy effects, creatures, explosions, or other mayhem to your iPhone videos, this is the best app out there.
There are a lot of apps that have tried to do what FxGuru: Movie FX Director set out to do, but none of the ones I’ve tried can equal FxGuru: Movie FX Director. This app lets you overlay big-budget Hollywood horror, sci-fi and action movie effects to any video.
The effects are really great, running the gamut from rogue dinosaurs and mechs to a “birthday bot” that sends birthday greetings. Eight effects are included for free, with even more available as IAPs.
While most of the in-app purchases will set you back 99 cents, there are a handful of IAP add-ons that are free. These include the Horror, Werewolves, and “Chainsaw Madman” IAPs.
FxGuru boasts 24 cinematic filters, 50 effects, and an “effect window” of ten seconds to create really impressive visuals. I also love how elegant the interface is. Even if you’re a total noob, this app makes it super easy to correctly align your shots so that the visual effects will look perfect.
The most recent version of the app, Version 1.0.3, included an update that improved video processing on older devices. If you are rocking an older device, you can now rest assured that this app will work great.
If you want to make funny videos of your friends and family, you need this app. I can see FxGuru being used to create memorable wedding/proposal videos, or used as a casual entertainment tool. It’s a really solid app that simply puts more effort into their concept than any other competing app I’ve tried.
