Handrite - Tapscape

What is Handrite?

Handrite is an Android note taking application that allows users to write with actual handwriting. A lost art!

Ease of use

Ease of useWhen Handrite is first loaded, there is almost nothing except a banner add. Typical of current Android design where minimalisim is king, but ads are still where the money’s at.

Handrite - Inital

The initial screen tells us where to click to start writing. Simple.

A stylus makes this a more pleasant experience, but even a finger can start writing anywhere on screen.

Handrite - Tapscape

After writing something the text is shrunk down as seen clearly below. Once it’s there the user can use pinch zooming to grow and shrink the text. Overall, pretty awesome.

Handrite - first writing

One bit of warning, larger writing will need to shrink more. So, if there is an accidental dot an inch or so below what was written, the text is going to be crazy small.

Utility

Handwrite has a lot of nifty features that add considerably to the experience. Different colors to write in, multiple backgrounds (notebook paper) to choose from, auto insertion, dropbox integration via OpenSync and many others.

Auto insertion is on by default, and it’s a curse for slow writers. It automatically inserts text which is cool, but it does it a bit too quickly. Thankfully this is easily turned off in the settings.

Handrite also has Handraw integration to add drawings.  Handraw must be installed separately, but Handraw can be accessed from the tool bar and will prompt the user if Handraw isn’t already installed.

Interface

The interface is great. Simple and obvious. What more can we ask for?The pages have a simple and obvious tool bar, and it’s easy to add new notes. Furthermore, notes can be put inside notebooks for better organization.

The only real complaint is that the user must tap the screen to see the settings/delete/share buttons.

Final thoughts

For those who desire a hand writing notebook application, Handrite is the tool. Being able to write big and have it shrink down to an appropriate size is simply amazing.
