The Jump: Escape The City is an iPhone game developed by Gone Gaming Ltd. The Jump is patterned after the “endless” runner game genre, but features a futuristic landscape and some sweet wheels.
In the futuristic city of Monopolis, you get to race through the crowded streets on a hover car that’s like something out of The Fifth Element. You must collect power cells while also avoiding obstacles.
While The Jump: Escape The City is structured like many endless runners, it’s a bit different. Unlike endless runners, you can actually reach an endpoint, with some levels allowing you to complete your escape in under five minutes. Each game is different, which keeps the replay value high and the gameplay quite challenging.
There are some issues, the most pressing of which is overall game stability. I had the game crash on me five times in a row before I could even play a single round. This is made more frustrating by the load time that precedes the game’s main menu screen.
Once it gets going, however, this futuristic “runner” is thoroughly enjoyable. The controls are simple, so you can just focus on driving and having fun.
Featuring a pulse-pounding soundtrack by Grammy Award-winning Super Producer DJ Poet, The Jump is a real stunner. There are tons of exciting power-ups, gorgeous graphics, and white-knuckle thrills. Forget yet another installment of “The Fast and the Furious”…I’d rather spend my summer playing The Jump: Escape The City than watching someone else do the driving.
