Max Power Adventures iPhone Game Review

Price: $2.99     Score: 8.5/10     Category: Games

Max Power Adventures, developed by Max Power Studios, is a tongue-in-cheek homage to classic RPG games. Featuring unique character designs, funny dialog and a story that doesn’t take itself too seriously, this cute little iPhone game is worth checking out if you love humor or quest-based video games.

Max Power just wants to be a hero, so when he learns that Princes Ceksie (get it?) has been kidnapped by the evil Mr. Evil, he’s quick to organize a quest party with his friends and try to locate the missing princess. You play through 15 missions in all, which is enough to keep you busy for quite a while. It should take you about 15 hours to complete.

Max Power Adventures definitely has a quirky sense of humor, and players who are familiar with the history of this genre of game will get the most out of the comically self-aware script. Heck, even the App Store description is irreverent, featuring “game reviews” as written by Max and other characters in the iPhone game.

The one drawback of this writing style is that Max Power Adventures takes a while to get going. All the jokes get in the way of the story’s momentum, to say nothing of how it drags on the tutorial far longer than is really needed. That being said, the jokes are the game’s most distinctive feature, and if you can commit an hour or more to your initial foray into the world of the game, you’ll be richly rewarded.

Thanks to an auto-save feature, you can play Max Power Adventures in short bursts or long stretches, depending on how much time you can squeeze in for each session. That’s good, because gathering your allies is going to take a while. If you’re a sucker for corny jokes and cutesy graphics, this tribute to classic RPG titles is worth a spin.

Max Power Adventures is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later.
