Microsoft has just released it’s popular game Wordament, which originally featured on Windows Phone, for iOS together with full Xbox Live integration featuring friend lists and achievements on your iPad and iPhone.

Wordament is a highly addictive word game. Players get two minutes to find the most words in a 4×4 grid of letters, competing in real-time against other players. Each board is unique and bonuses are given for longer words with the winner being the player with the most points.

Microsoft describes the iOS version of the game as “pure Wordament,” meaning it connects to the same servers and plays with the same players that are on Windows Phone and Windows 8. Everyone plays together in one continuous world-wide tournament in 12 puzzle languages across all devices.

When you sign in with your free Microsoft account, you can earn up to 50 Gamerscore from our 10 achievements and you’ll have access to all of your Xbox Friends and Wordament Frenemies. If you’ve played on Windows Phone or Window 8 and jump to the iOS version, all of your player stats and friends will follow your account automatically.

Once signed in to Wordament, you have access to all your Xbox live data, friends, and scores. The game is extremely addictive, and marks an important step in cross-platform together, possibly giving a taste of what is to come in the future of gaming. The App itself could do with some improvement as it doesn’t support the iPhone 5’s 4-inch display, and the in-app Ads are quite annoying, but is an extremely good app none-the-less.

Microsoft has been criticised recently for the lack of App availability on Windows 8, together with Windows Phone 8, and this may be an attempt of bringing a bit of Windows to iOS, joining Kinectimals, and the Xbox Live for iOS Apps. If you can’t beat them, join ’em.

Wordament is a free download on the App Store. Leave a comment and let us know what you think.
