Playstation Mobile Developer Program

Exciting news for all aspiring game developers out there — Sony’s Playstation Mobile Developer Program has officially launched! The program will allow game developers to create new titles not only for the Japanese company’s premier handheld gaming device, the PS Vita, but also for Playstation-certified Android smartphones and tablets, a list which currently includes Asus, HTC and Sony’s own Xperia line.

Playstation Mobile Developer Program

As of today, the Playstation Mobile Developer Program is available in Japan, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, with Hong Kong and Taiwan to follow shortly:

“Allowing a wider range of developers to create dedicated content for PlayStation Mobile, the PlayStation Mobile Developer Program becomes available in Japan, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia. The forthcoming phased roll out will start from Hong Kong and Taiwan and with more countries and regions to follow. This program enables developers to distribute easily their content through PlayStation Store on a commercial basis and market their games to millions of dedicated gamers with PlayStation Certified*4 devices and PlayStation Vita. The license agreement fee is 7,980 yen annually.”

It’s a great opportunity for budding game designers to create and market their game creations to a wider audience. Hopefully, with Sony opening up their mobile platform to more developers, we’ll have an influx of awesome new games with creative mechanics. This could also potentially solve the long-standing issue of the PS Vita not having enough games.
