FeedsWire iPhone App Review

FeedsWire – News RSS Feed Reader, developed by MyClickapps.com LLC, is a solid workhorse of an app, capable of being a perfectly serviceable new hub for your mobile device.

Universally compatible on all iOS devices, FeedsWire lets you gather your favorite RSS feeds, Twitter feeds, and more into a central location. The color palette, however, leaves something to be desired: while pretty, it caused eye strain after long usage, and the lack of contrast was almost certainly to blame.

That being said, it’s still a solid iPhone app with some great features. For example, you can review all your RSS feeds even when operating in offline mode, which is an excellent touch for subway commuters.

The ability to use either the arrow keys or a swiping gesture to navigate is great, allowing for a degree of personal choice that’s always nice to see in a mobile reading app. Add super-quick load times into the mix, and it’s a serviceable app that’s definitely not underpowered.

But there are a few obvious weaknesses in this otherwise excellent offering from MyClickApps. For one, there’s no easy way to import all your current RSS feed preferences from your current reader of choice, which seems like a no-brainer for any RSS reader today.

Also lacking in FeedsWire are thumbnail images. And with popular, visual RSS readers like Flipboard out there acting as direct competition, it makes the overall reading experience far less dynamic.

FeedsWire is actually a really solid iPhoneapp, with very little to complain about. And yet, it does suffer from comparison to the other apps out there. If you’re looking for a drilled-down RSS reader that won’t tax your mobile data account, FeedsWire is your app.

App Review: FeedsWire – News RSS Feed Reader is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 5.0 or later.
