'Titanfall' May Be Huge, But The Xbox One Is Still Behind

Shortly after Sony announced that it had reached 7 million sales with its PS4 game console, Microsoft has come out with stats to show that it is far behind Sony. Even though both consoles were released around the same time, only 5 million Xbox One units have been sold, despite the popularity of Xbox-exclusive Titanfall.

'Titanfall' May Be Huge, But The Xbox One Is Still BehindBy no means is Microsoft failing with the Xbox One–the console is actually selling at a faster pace than the 360 did–but Sony seems to be winning this console war.

NPD has released its latest report on the console and gaming industry as well. According to its data, Titanfall was the number one game during March, which likely game the Xbox One a little boost.

Following Titanfall were inFamous: Second Son, South Park: The Stick of Truth, and Call of Duty: Ghosts.

  • Titanfall (XBOX, PC)
  • inFAMOUS Second Son (PS4)
  • South Park: The Stick of Truth (360, PS3, PC)
  • Call Of Duty: Ghosts (360, PS3, XBO, PS4, NWU, PC)
  • Dark Souls II (PS3, 360)
  • Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (PS4, XBO, PS3, 360)
  • NBA 2K14 (PS4, 360, XBO, PS3, PC)
  • Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster (PS3, PSV)
  • The LEGO Movie Videogame (360, PS3, 3DS, NWU, XBO, PS4, PSV)
  • Minecraft (360)

When comparing the first five months of sales for the Xbox One and PS4 to their predecessor’s first five months, total Xbox One and PS4 sales are up close to 60 percent…As seen in the past few months, hardware sales for March 2014 saw strong growth over March 2013. Sales increases were driven completely by consoles sales due mainly to continued success from the PS4 and Xbox One. – Liam Callahan, NPD

The “continued success” that Callahan talks about is definitely present, though without a doubt, the PS4 is leading the way. Many gamers regard Sony’s platform as the better, cheaper option for most people this time around, even though the 360 was immensely popular during the last console war.

In March alone Microsoft pushed 311,00 consoles but at the same time, Sony moved nearly 1 million units during the same time period.

Question – Do you prefer the Xbox One or the PS4 as a game console?

Summary: Microsoft has announced that 5 million Xbox Ones have been sold. This figure is smaller than the 7 million PS4s that Sony has moved.
