Noblo iOS Game Review

[app url=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/noblo/id882282865?mt=8″]

Noblo is an underwhelming take on peg solitaire developed by Jean Charles ANGER.

Peg solitaire is a game consisting of a board of balls, or pegs, that the player must clear. Pegs are cleared by hopping one peg over another, much like in a game of checkers. The player loses when no more jumps can be made, and the number of remaining pegs represents their score, the lower the better.

Noblo switches things around a bit, taking some inspiration from Tetris and letting new pegs come in from the top of the screen when a row has been cleared of all pegs. Eventually red pegs that can jump over other pegs but can not be jumped over themselves are introduced to ensure the game will end. The high score of total pegs cleared is saved once there are no more possible moves.

It’s fun, it’s simple, and it entertains for a few minutes. Unfortunately, that’s all it does. Noblo is an incredibly bare bones experience, there is no leaderboard support, no options menu and no alternate game modes.

Occasionally a simple game without many features can still be considered quality if it succeeds in all the right places, providing a tailored experience that exists without bloating itself with unnecessary extensions to its core design.

Noblo is not one of those games, its missing features come off as a product of negligence and not a product of deliberate omission. This is because the game is severely under-polished, with unappealing graphics featuring absolutely zero animation, a recurring bug causing pegs at the top of the screen to stack on top of each other, no sound and a confusing as well as poorly written couple of sentences serving as a tutorial.

Noblo is a game with a mildly interesting gameplay loop, but it lacks the polish and execution required to do anything with it. Even for free, this game is hardly worth more than a few minutes of your time.

Noblo requires iOS 6.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. Follow Tapscape for the latest iPhone app reviews.
