Quick Guide to Discovering Your “Third Place”

Quick Guide to Discovering Your "Third Place"

A third place is a space that is not work or home, but a place where people relax and build up a community. It is where there are no social hierarchies and conversations come naturally. It may even be a group of people who share similar hobbies with you, and you can relax and freely talk about your thoughts with them. Here is a guide on how you could find your third place.

Identify hobbies you like

If you have a hobby, there should be a community out there or some people and other condo residents at River Modern who share that same interest as you- all you have to do is look. Be it building Lego, playing board games, gaming, music, or painting. These hobbies bring people together to form a community of people who like it as well. Look for groups and environments that match your likes and interests.

Identify your preferences

Are you an outgoing person or a more reserved person? Do you like interacting with people? Do you like minding your own business while the others do the same? These are questions you should ask yourself in finding your third place so that it aligns with your preferences. If you are a quiet and more reserved person, maybe go to a cafe or library because of its relaxing atmosphere. If you are outgoing, maybe community centers and shared spaces are for you.

Look around

Walk around your university, local park, cafe, and neighborhood to see which vibe suits you the most. Look for groups that happen to be walking their dogs, doing yoga, playing basketball, and more. You will soon find a place that makes you feel relaxed, calm, and at ease outside of home and work. It all comes down to the person and their preferences to find the perfect third place.
