Zappi Adventures iPad Game Review: Sci-Fi Physics Puzzlers

[app id=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/zappi/id876436090?mt=8″]

Zappi is an iPad game developed by Eforb Games. In this sci-fi game, you must complete a series of puzzles that test your knowledge of momentum and physics.

The story that ties together the puzzles in this game is pretty simple. Cruel aliens stole a toy from a little boy called Louis. The toy, Zappi, wants to get back to Louis, and so plots a daring escape through many treacherous and confusing environments.

To control Zappi, you simple tap the screen. You can time your revolutions carefully around various magnets, and piggyback to the next magnet using your built-up momentum. Once you get close to the “escape pipe,” you will get sucked in and sent to the next area, or the end of the level. You must solve puzzles by experimenting with physics, making this fun for adults but potentially also a good app for kids.

As you progress through the game, you can help Zappi collect all the stars scattered around in each level. This game boasts 45 levels in the first “season,” with additional levels becoming available after you’ve collected a certain amount of stars in earlier levels.

Overall, the gameplay here is solid. That being said, the game also doesn’t really bring anything new to the table in terms of mechanics, plot, or innovations.

If you like Portal, or any physics-based puzzle game, Zappi Adventures is probably worth checking out. While the early levels are a bit too simplistic and the graphics are sort of ho-hum, there’s an immense amount of replay value to be had from beating these levels over and over again at the fastest speed possible. It’s a simple game, but a thoroughly enjoyable one.
