Photivo iOS App Review

[app url=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/photivo/id887965074?mt=8″]

Photivo, developed by GeorgeApps, is a great photo manipulation app with a typical yet robust feature set and a beautiful presentation.

With the rise of social media has also come the rise of independent photography. Anyone with a smart phone is ostensibly walking around with a fantastic camera in their pocket, and they often want to share the highlights of their lives online. It’s no surprise then that photo manipulation applications are numerous and hugely popular on the app store.

Photivo is another app in a long list of competent photo manipulation applications, and it doesn’t really do much different in terms of its feature set. Every major feature you would expect from an app of this type is present, with all sorts of filters, frames, and effects available. Though none of the laundry list of features are unique to Photivo, the app still succeeds because it includes so many of them. Some apps focus on filters for example, while others might focus on tilt shift photography, but Photivo includes all of these common features in one application, which is quite rare.

Where Photivo really stands out though is in its presentation, the app is simply a joy to look at. All of the menus are cleanly presented and the user interface is easy and quick to use with no feature being more than a few taps away. Filters are especially well handled, with the icon of each filter showing a preview of its effect on the picture you are manipulating. It looks snazzy and removes some of the trial and error accompanied with picking vaguely named filters out of a list as is the case with most of these types of apps.

Photivo does stumble a bit when it comes to sharing these edited photos however, the ability to share on Twitter and Facebook as well as save photos on your camera roll are the only options available. It would be nice to be able to send edited pictures through e-mail or text message just like most photo editing apps. Photivo also doesn’t allow editing in landscape mode, which can feel a little clunky when you’re trying to touch up a landscape picture.

The gripes I have with Photivo are minor however, and the application still stands out as a particularly stellar photo editing tool for iOS devices. It’s robust and slick, and I highly recommend giving it a look.

Photivo requires iOS 6.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. Follow Tapscape for the latest iPhone app reviews.
