Your next Samsung flagship could come with a bezel-less display

Samsung bezel less Galaxy S8

Samsung is the pioneer of display technology, and both the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are evidence to the company’s capability of using the best smartphone displays in the world. In order to make the Galaxy S8 much different from its predecessors, a principal engineer at Samsung stated that the company is working on reducing the percentage of the body that covers the smartphone and replacing it with the display instead.

“Samsung Display would roll out a full-screen display whose display area ratio (a scale that measures space taken up by a display on the front part of a handset) reaches more than 90 percent next year.”

One other report claims that because the Galaxy S8 is going to feature an optical fingerprint reader, the bezel-less display approach could be adopted quite easily because instead of integrating the fingerprint reader on the physical home button, it will be found beneath the display. This will allow the manufacturer to cover up a huge portion of the smartphone’s front with nothing but display, but at the same time, it will make the phone far more delicate than ever before.

Bezel-less smartphones have a screen that covers the edges of the device and if you accidentally drop it, then not only will you risk breaking the body of the smartphone, you will also risk shattering the display, and if you’ve seen the countless stories on the internet and forums, it costs a lot to replace those displays.

Galaxy S8 has also been rumored to come with a 4K display, and because of its hardware specifications and the fact that it will be running Android 7.0, it will be Daydream ready. To make Note 7 owners more comfortable about upgrading to a Galaxy S8, Samsung has been reported to introduce discounts for such customers, but you will still have to show proof of purchase.
