Shiny the Firefly iPhone Game Review: A Charming Game!

[app id=”608321950″]

Shiny the Firefly is an iPhone game developed by Headup Games. This brand new iPhone game is a charming diversion for kids and adults alike.

Part “Finding Nemo,” part “A Bug’s Life,” this backyard garden game follows Shiny the Firefly as he attempts to reunite with his missing children. Unfortunately, the garden is filled with tons of enemies, including wasps, mosquitoes, and toads.

There’s a lot to like here: there’s a puzzle aspect to Shiny the Firefly that makes the game challenging for players. In addition, your reaction times will also be put to the test, making this a great game for adults who love hand-eye coordination games, as well as for kids who are still trying to develop those skills.

Another thing that makes this game a fun developmental tool for younger players is the game’s reliance on the player’s understanding of emotions. Shiny will variously feel emotions like happiness, concern, or anger, and the player needs to be sensitive to this.

A really clever aspect of this game is the “Light on, light off” feature. Because Shiny is a firefly, his babies can only find him when he is lit up. However, this ups the difficulty: when the light is on, Shiny is also visible to his many, many enemies.

With gorgeous graphics that draw favorable comparisons to Pixar flicks like “A Bug’s Life,” Shiny the Firefly is a promising addition to the App Store’s current lineup. Boasting three different worlds with a total of 33 levels, Shiny the Firefly is a must-buy. As Kaylee would say on Joss Whedon’s cult classic “Firefly,” this game is definitely “shiny.”

Shiny the Firefly is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 4.2 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
