Steve Jobs Responds to iPhone Location Tracking Scandal

Reports that surfaced last week claiming that Apple is keeping tabs on all iOS users through cellular tracking have not yet been confirmed, but the evidence seems to support the theory.

While this is unconfirmed, Mac Rumors have posted an email question and reply from Steve Jobs on the matter, sent in by a reader of the site:

The question:

Steve, Could you please explain the necessity of the passive location-tracking tool embedded in my iPhone? It’s kind of unnerving knowing that my exact location is being recorded at all times. Maybe you could shed some light on this for me before I switch to a Droid.

Steve’s answer:

Oh yes they do. We don’t track anyone. The info circulating around is false. Sent from my iPhone.

Well that settles it then. Unfortunately for Steve, Bloomberg is reporting that two iPhone users have launched a federal lawsuit against the company for privacy invasion and computer fraud, and there’s sure to be more to follow.
