Three UK eliminates U.S Roaming charges

In a move which has come just at the right time for me, Three UK have announced that they are getting rid of the roaming charges in a number of countries, including the United States of America.

The news is absolutely huge, and will hopefully spark a snowball affect of other carriers following suit. Three UK’s ‘Feel at Home’ program allows customers to use their existing allowances as part of their roaming usage, meaning any USA data, texts, or calls are charged at no extra if included as part of your monthly bundle.

When you land in the USA, your device (or in my case the MiFi mobile broadband dongle) will connect to one of the U.S carriers and any usage will be billed to your inclusive allowance. Calls to non-UK numbers are still charged at regular rates as are texts, but then that’s the same case back home anyway.

All pay-as-you-go, contract, business and mobile broadband customers are included as long as international roaming is activated on their accounts. I specifically had to ring up and activate mine, so if you plan on travelling abroad to the U.S anytime soon, it’ll be worth checking if your account is activated.

Three UK have not only eliminated unpredictable highly expensive roaming bills, but have also taken a step to allow inter-country travelling without it affecting communications or our pockets.

Let’s hope Three’s move to eliminate roaming costs as part of their ‘Feel at Home’ program expands to include more countries soon, but also that it encourages other carriers like EE, Vodafone, and O2 to follow in their footsteps and offer a similar scheme.
