One thing that 1-800 CONTACTS has always done well is marketing. I can remember really early commercials for 1-800 CONTACTS back in the mid-90s when it was just a 1-800 number, and hadn’t yet developed a website or mobile app. Back then, their spokesperson was Lynda Carter (TV’s Wonder Woman in the 1970s!) More recently, the company’s commercials have taken a more comedic bent (“Look! Look with your special eyes!” “MY BRAND!”)
Some of that fun shows up in the App Store description: “Where else can you reorder your contacts in 3 taps? Pluto? PLUTO ISN’T EVEN A PLANET ANYMORE.” It’s nice to see a medical/vision app that provides a blend of service and personality. It really does seem like when you call, text, or otherwise reach out for customer support, you’ll get paired up with a friendly CS rep.
The 1-800 CONTACTS app promises that they will answer calls in 30 seconds, respond to emails in 15 minutes, and reply to texts within just 4 minutes (all by real live people with “adorable” Utah accents, the description proclaims.)
Updated on January 7th, Version 1.1.2 of the 1-800 CONTACTS app lets you easily track your order with one tap, from either the Order History tab or when viewing the details of an order.
I was really impressed with how easy the 1-800 CONTACTS app was to set up and use. Users can scan the barcode on the contact lens box to upload their prescription, and upload a pic of the paper prescription to get faster ship times. You can also search for a local optometrist/opthamalogist using GPS.
Even paying is painless. Just scan your credit card with the camera or use PayPal to type the minimum number of letters: a great feature for busy people.
If you need contacts and hate dealing with conventional ordering methods, I highly recommend this smartly designed app.
The 1-800 CONTACTS iPhone app is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
