playstation 4

The Playstation 4 is finally here after its launch on Friday, but already the Playstation support forums are full with the cries of furious gamers who have reported that their units are dead on arrival.

The most common complaint seems to be some sort of “blue light of death” syndrome whereby the console’s light bar flashes blue but never outputs a video signal or boots up.

Reddit also has a thread with other 91 cases of different scenarios in which the bricking occurred, some of which include:

  • Broken HDMI port on arrival
  • Bricking after downloading the 1.5 update
  • Multiple crashes during multiplayer matches
  • Bricked BLoD (Blue Light of Death) on arrival
  • Unit shows no life at all on arrival
  • Possible GPU failure
  • Crashing to Safe Mode during Multiplayer

The list goes on, with the main problem looking like this BLoD for the Playstation 4. You just have to check out Amazon where nearly 40 percent of the reviews for the Playstation 4 are 1 star with users complaining of hardware failures.

Playstation 4 Launch Failures

A Sony representative states that they are keeping a very close eye on the situation, but believe only 0.4% of units are affected.

“A handful of people have reported issues with their PlayStation 4 systems. This is within our expectations for a new product introduction, and the vast majority of PS4 feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We are closely monitoring for additional reports, but we think these are isolated incidents and are on track for a great launch.

There have been several problems reported, which leads us to believe there isn’t a singular problem that could impact a broader percentage of systems. The number of affected systems represents less than .4% of shipped units to date, which is within our expectations for a new product introduction.”
