Pay Dirt – Treasures of Chichen Itza is an iPhone game developed by Genius Factor Games Inc. In this thrilling game, you can unleash your inner Indiana Jones and skillfully excavate ancient Mayan artifacts from the famed Chichen Itza dig site.
Chichen Itza was a large city built by the Maya civilization, likely around 500-600 AD. Miguel, your faithful guide, will take you through the various sites at Chichen Itza. At each site, you can uncover a variety of artifacts, each of which you need to carefully dig up.
If you use your spade, you may damage the object and decrease its value: careful brushing of the object is needed to keep the artifact intact. That being said, you do get a time bonus for uncovering the object quickly.
As with any sort of realistic simulation game, you run the risk of boring some players. For every person who loves “Diner Dash,” there’s an actual diner waitress who is totally bored while she’s on the job. Likewise, Pay Dirt is so realistic that it can be really boring. If you don’t think you’d enjoy carefully brushing away dirt from a buried object at a very slow pace in real life, chances are you won’t like it much as a mobile game, either.
If you played the game right after it launched and got angry because it was buggy, there’s some good news. Version 1.02 has a number of bug fixes and performance enhancements to ensure your gaming experience is a pleasant one.
Featuring an exciting, Latin-influenced soundtrack, Pay Dirt is a really interesting game for fans of history, archeology, or Latin American culture. If you believe that patience is a virtue, Pay Dirt is a slow-paced game that really captures what working on an archeological dig is like…at least, to some extent.
