Roulettist is an iPhone game developed by KAMAGAMES LTD. As you might have guessed from this little game’s title, Roulettist is an iPhone-sized version of a roulette wheel.
I don’t know why casinos are so cool, but they really are. Roulette wheels have been featured in cool pop culture franchises like James Bond and the Ocean’s movies. There’s something so effortlessly cool about this particular game of chance, something so “devil may care.”
Roulettist does a great job of capturing that atmosphere. It’s fun, sociable, and free! The App Store description explains that Roulettist offers classic European roulette, elegant French roulette, and risky, “like-in-the-movies” American roulette.
One thing that’s quite clever is the fact that Roulettist accounts can be integrated with Pokerist Texas Poker. Therefore, if you play both games, you can share coins between the two.
The sounds of the roulette wheel itself are quite authentic, though part of me does wish that there were more sounds than just the sound of the wheel and the dealer’s voice. A background murmur that suggests the sound of a crowded casino might be a nice touch.
There are two things that might aggravate new players. One: there is no tutorial the precedes your first attempt to play. For players who aren’t totally familiar with the rules, this could be frustrating.
A second issue the the game’s lack of stability. I’ve had the game cut out on me after I’ve placed my bets but before the wheel was spun. Consequently, I lost money…not just what I had bet, but what I had won before that point and had in reserve. The stability is a bit of a bummer, but hopefully it can be improved in later iterations of the app.
Despite a few quibbles, however, I am mostly pleased with this app. If you can’t get to Vegas or Atlantic City, this “roulette in your pocket” app is the next best thing.
