The New UR e-series by Universal Robots

In 2018, Universal Robots introduced their new line of cobots, the e-series at Automatic in Munich Germany. This being the fourth generation of its cobot’s series, some questions as to how different it is from the third generation are unavoidable.

The third generation cobots comprising of the UR3, UR5 and UR10 continue to be as popular as they were during their year of launching. The e-series includes UR3e, UR5e, UR10e and the newest addition the UR16e.

According to the president of Universal Robots, the new e-series aims at empowering people to make it easy for everyone to use cobots. With the new e-series in the market, Universal Robots continues to lead in using innovation to come up with the best user-friendly cobots in the market. The improvement is of course a much better version of the older commercial robots.

Benefits of the new UR e-series

What makes the new series more special? What attributes or features does it come with that the third generation lacks? What improvements does the e-series come with? These are questions that many people would want answers to in order to understand why they are better than the older generation.

The new e-series runs concurrently with the older line of robots. This it does as a premium option. Some of the features that make the e-series stand out are as follows.

Better precision

While one of the aspects that makes the third line of cobots popular is precision, the new e-series cones with even better improvements making them more precise. They have built-in torque sensors that give them more improved precision abilities. The same sensor also gives the new series more sensitivity.

Faster

Another feature that makes the e-series stand out is that it comes with faster abilities to handle different tasks. This helps in faster development for bigger applications compared to what the old line of UR cobots can handle. To help with faster speed, the e-series comes with four additional high-speed digital inputs.

Better experience for the user

The new series also targets to improve user experience. It does this by using a new control and programming software and a better designed control panel. The use of these improvements makes programming and the cobot’s deployment much easier for the user irrespective of the applications at hand.

Better safety measures

Universal Robots has also put 17 safety measures on the e-series cobot. Some of the safety functions include customised distance and stopping time. the older UR line comes with 15 safety functions and it is not very clear whether the additions are only two or some of the older safety functions are no longer in existence.

All the new safety functions comply with the ISO laid down regulations. The safety functions include an unobstructed collaboration with humans.

Noise reduction and improved repeatability

Another feature that makes the new e-series a hit is its noise reduction ability. The new series reduces the cobot’s noise to 10Db. it also comes with better support for its end connectors. The repeatability of the e-series is also better than that of the 3rd generation UR series.

Weight

Another thing that makes the 3rd generation UR cobots popular is its lightweight feature. The new e-series on the hand does not come with the same feature. It is lightweight all right but much heavier than the third generation UR series. The material that makes the e-series is heavy steel, which is about 6oz heavier than the older generation cobot’s material.

Wrapping it up

The e in the e-series stands for evolution and we can all agree that these cobot are the evolution many industries need to maximise their production levels. Universal Robots proves that by staying ahead with technology, they can achieve a lot more in producing more collaborative robots that come with more benefits than the older cobots.
