People have been talking about an Apple smartwatch for years, but it now looks like the real iWatch could be arriving in a matter of weeks.

An off-handed comment by a guy with a reputation or a wall-placed hint by an insider that should know better? People have been talking about an Apple smartwatch for years, but it now looks like the real iWatch could be arriving in a matter of weeks.

John Gruber has never worked for Apple, but it is well known that people at Apple read his popular and widely quoted blog, Daring Fireball. Moreover, Gruber has contacts at Apple that have, from time to time, given him unusual access to information that ordinary didn’t have.

He has accurately “predicted” a number of products and features over the years. Contrariwise, John Gruber has made statements about unreleased Apple products that turned out to be inaccurate.

That said, Gruber’s back with a backhanded comment that confirms the imminent arrival of the iWatch:

It looks like Motorola’s designers tried to draw as much attention as they could to the 360’s stupid flat-tire display shape.

The only way this could get funnier would be if it doesn’t even ship until after Apple announces their wrist wearable thing next month.

It is widely expected that Apple will hold a iPhone + iOS media event on or after September 9.

Gruber made the above iWatch comments in relation to Moto 360 fluff piece on The Verge. That is kind of odd for a guy that is widely thought to know stuff about Apple, don’t you think?

Then again, maybe Gruber is out of the loop with Apple just made an off-handed comment about the iWatch that is no more informed about the supposed Apple smartwatch than you or I? Yeah, maybe…

What’s your take?
