Asian Cuisines is an iPhone app developed by Zhijian Zhang / Douguo Inc. Boasting over 90 recipes from top chefs, Asian Cuisines is a brand new app that is also a great cooking reference for hungry home cooks.
All of the recipes featured in this app were sourced from Douguo.com. There are tons of dishes for all types of occasions, from party snacks to “quick and easy” dinner options.
Boasting step-by-step instructions and plenty of photos, Asian Cuisines is a great way to learn a new cuisine, or broaden your existing Asian cookery experience. The built-in shopping lists are really excellent, and help you to stay organized while you are shopping for ingredients.
With Asian Cuisines, you can explore dishes from four different countries: China, Japan, Korea, and Thailand. Hopefully, future editions will include recipe packs for other Asian countries: Vietnam in particular would be a nice addition to what is already being represented here.
There’s a robust tagging system in place here, making it simple to mark your favorite recipes for later reference. The recipes marked with easy to note icons for low-sodium, vegetarian, low fat, and high fiber content entrees.
I was quite surprised to see a social feature incorporated in this app. Unlike many other recipe database apps, Asian Cuisines lets you email recipes from within the app.
One thing that may not appeal to some home cooks in the US is the lack of recipe conversions. The recipes in this app are based around the metric system, so ingredient amounts are given in grams or milliliters instead of cups. An in-app conversion would make this great app even better for US users.
Overall, Asian Cuisines is a very enjoyable app. If you want to learn some new recipes that have already been vetted by a passionate foodie community, definitely give this free app a try!
Asian Cuisines is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. Requires iOS 5.0 or later.
