Growing up, I had the physical version of one of these games. I played around with it for hours as a kid, and it was really fun to recapture the experience on my iPhone 5S.
In Balance, the traditional labyrinth game gets a 3D twist. Eventually, you’ll have to manipulate multiple balls through a wooden labyrinth. You can play in 2D, 3D or holographic view.
As you try to beat the world and national record times on each level, you can share also video replays of your best level runs on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Email.
With over 100 levels, Balance HD requires precise execution to complete. This game is tough, particularly in levels which require multi-ball coordination.
Thankfully, the controls are perfectly, exquisitely calibrated, minimizing player frustration. If you have issues getting your ball to its destination, it’s down to your skill, and not to any problems with the game’s tilt controls.
The controls and level design are really well executed, but I also have high praise for the interface in general. You can select a level from the thoughtfully designed menu. At the end of a level, you are presented with a clean list of your time, other top times, and the ability to restart the level or share your replay video.
This is one of those rare apps that’s not only fun to play, but also lovely to navigate. This game was in the making for a long time, but it was definitely worth the wait.
Developer note: A free 60-minute trial version for Mac and PC is also available through the website. iOS players of Balance HD can obtain free licenses to the PC and Mac version of the game by meeting certain eligibility requirements.
