Travel is hard. You want to get the most out of your experience, see the places that every TV show host has raved about, but also find cool places that are off the radar of the average tourist. Thankfully, Gelpme for iPhone, developed by Gelpme Ltd., is here to make travel a bit easier for you.
Once you sign in (you’ll either need to a create a Gelpme account or sign in with your Facebook login details), the Gelpme iPhone app presents you with a map filled with tiny purple dots. Each dot represents a travel experience, be it a landmark, restaurant, or something completely unexpected.
Gelpme aims to make travel less about going someplace and more about having a meaningful experience while you are there. To that end, exploring the map will present map points that are seeped in emotion and inspirational experiences. If you’re sick of reading outdated tourist guidebooks or sketchy, unreliable reviews on trip-planning websites, Gelpme presents a list of experiences that other travelers have had in the same locations.
Signing in with Facebook is a smart choice, as much of the fun in Gelpme comes from leveraging your social network. You can connect with your friends on Facebook to ask them to share their most exciting experience about the location where you want to travel. You can also reach out to other Gelpers while traveling for additional advice.
The color scheme, for me, is a bit “blah.” But the navigation works well, and its easy to sort through all the various advice out there from other Gelpers. There is some really great, detailed travel info in Gelpme that makes the app worth trying out.
If you’re planning a trip (or just engaging in a bit of armchair travel fantasy), the Gelpme app for iPhone is a cool new tool to add to your travel-planning arsenal. As the network of users grows, this pretty good app is destined to become truly great and an utterly robust addition to a travellers arsenal.
Gelpme is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.0 or later. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this iPhone app review.
