The new iPhone 5S is coming in Gold, White and, inexplicably, Space Gray. If this latest rumor is believable, then so are the new iPad 5 and iPad mini 2. Yes, cats and kittens, iPad replacement parts in Gold, White and Space Gray are beginning to show up in Apple’s ever leaky Asian supply chain.

Whereas the image above is an artist rendering of what a gold iPad mini 2 and space gray iPad 5 might look like, the bags of new iPad SIM card trays in three different colors are actual photos. C Tech, an upstream iThing parts supplier, is the source of the image (below) and similar sightings have turned out to be both wrong and accurate in the past.

That said, SlashGear speculates that the iPad mini 2 is coming in two colors (i.e. black, white) and iPad 5 in the now familiar three colors of the iPhone 5S.

Proof of anything, one way or another? No and, as always, nothing is real until Tim Cook et al announce it.

To whit, an Apple Event where new Haswell-powered iMac, Mac mini and MacBook Pro models, as well as the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2, is anticipated for Tuesday, October 15. Barring a “yep” or “nope” from Apple rumor curator Jim Dalrymple, we won’t know if that date’s correct until October 8 — Apple Event media invitations get sent out one week ahead of time.

So is the rumor correct, the gold iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 are coming, or do we need more evidence?

Or, put another way, now that you’ve seen a gold iPad mini 2 (artist rendering), can you imagine buying any other color?
