Monkeys in My Head iPad App Review

Price: $1.99     Score: 9/10     Category: Education

Monkeys in My Head, developed by Paperplaneco, is an original interactive story iPad app about a little girl called Pirouette and the monkeys that live inside her head.

Featuring a distinctive art style that’s part “Where the Wild Things Are” and part Edward Gorey, this funny little book is totally eye-catching. If you’ve been looking for a new book to share and enjoy with your kids, this may be just the ticket.

Recommended for ages four and up, Monkeys in My Head can be read silently by your child, or you can choose to use the “read aloud” option to have the character of Pirouette tell the story to your kid.

The other audio component on this tale (beyond the narration) are the sound effects and music, both of which are excellent and definitely suit the tone of the story.

Your enjoyment of this book app will vary greatly depending on the age of your kids and the type of parenting style you employ. It’s important to remember that the tale has a happy ending, so despite some dark and scary elements, all’s well that ends well.

However, if you’re the sort of parent who strictly regulates what you kids are exposed to, you might not be entirely happy with your purchase. Parents who aren’t afraid to expose their kids to a little bit of healthy dramatic tension, however, are almost certain to enjoy this amusing and beautifully illustrated tale.

In short, if you are the type of parent who thinks that Edward Gorey or Maurice Sendak are appropriate reading choices for a growing kid, then the relative mild scares and illustrations in this thoughtfully composed ebook shouldn’t pose a problem. Overprotective parents need not apply.

Monkeys in My Head is compatible with iPad. Requires iOS 5.1 or later.
