The Nintendo Switch Could Learn From The Nintendo NES Classic Mini

On 3rd of March 2017, Nintendo released its latest gaming console, the Nintendo Switch. The device has been a hit to some, and a fail to others. The great aspects of Nintendo Switch is that it’s different and innovative. However, the gameplay style may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Most of its games require too much interaction, and even after completing a level, it’s never that rewarding due to wonkiness of the switch controllers.

Nintendo has been struggling to keep up and come out with a successful gaming console to compete with other consoles that are far ahead in the lead, such as Sony’s PS4 and Microsoft’s XBOX, in the 21st Century. This is not to undermine the major power and impact Nintendo has in the gaming industry. However, it would be best if the company were to learn from it’s previous successes, such as the Nintendo NES Classic Mini. The Nintendo Switch can learn from the success that was the Nintendo NES, which released a good 34 years ago, back in 1983.

The Nintendo NES saw worldwide success and has changed the course of gaming history with it’s release. It’s major success factor came from the games introduced and released onto it. Games such as Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong etc.

This is something the Nintendo Switch failed to implement and take advantage of. Creating exclusive games can have been a major selling point for most, probably why the PS4 and XBOX have seen such major commercial success.

Moreover, the Nintendo NES Classic Mini was so successful that they re-released the product worldwide a few months ago in November of 2016, and sold 200,000 units in just a few hours of release in the US. The device sold out in all countries and stores within a day. Therefore, there is no denying how much the device means to gamers worldwide.

Nintendo can learn from what it has achieved in the past, back when it was at its peak and still implement the same methodologies that made them the multi-billion dollar gaming company they are today. With the success the Nintendo NES Classic Mini has seen, the Nintendo Switch, although innovative, could have been something more than it what it is.
