Flurry reported late last week that on Christmas day alone, 6.8 million iOS and Android devices were activated, a 353 percent increase over the average of the first 24 days of December.

Today, the firm posted an even more impressive record breaking number, the number of applications downloaded during the final week of 2011. More than 1.2 billion apps were downloaded across both Android and iOS operating systems, a 60 percent jump over the average weekly downloads in December, which have never come in at one billion.

242 million individual applications were downloaded on December 24 alone; Americans downloaded the majority at 509 million of the worldwide total. China followed the United States with 99 million, accompanied by the U.K. with 81 million. Canada, Germany and France trailed with approximately 40 million each.
