Apple plans to prepare iTV materials during the first quarter this year ahead of a third quarter launch, DigiTimes is reporting.

The same website reported that Samsung began producing chips for the television back in November, leaving Sharp with the responsibility to produce the TVs.

Digitimes’ sources additionally noted that Apple may announce the third generation of Apple TV boxes at some point this year.

Although the company is set to host an event later this month in the Big Apple, it has been said that the event will focus on iBooks and publishing more than anything else.

Rumors of an Apple iTV have spreading like wildfire since the death of Steve Jobs, who noted in his biography that he had “finally cracked” the TV space.

“I’d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use,” he explained. “It would be seamlessly synched with all of your devices and with iCloud. It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine.”
