When I first started learning guitar a couple of years ago, I used a variety of apps to help me get my bearings. Almost all of the apps disappointed me, either because the quality of the lessons was low or because the interface was clumsy.
Having tried so many other guitar teaching apps, I feel confident in saying that Coach Guitar is one of the best. You can see both right and left-handed orientations, there are tons of video lessons, and you can loop tutorials or view an animated, color-coded fretboard.
You don’t need to be able to read music, or even read guitar tabs. Even the most beginner of beginners will feel right at home. Supported languages include English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Brazilian/Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and Russian.
Included in this version of the app are “Stairway To Heaven” by Led Zeppelin and “Wake Me Up When September Ends” by Green Day. Many other lessons are available as well, including “Hotel California” by Eagles and “Yesterday” by the Beatles.
Overall, Coach Guitar has a stellar interface. It is easy to use this app to build your skills and your musical confidence. With a large variety of popular and classic songs to review and a top-notch color-coding system for teaching correct hand positions, this app is a must-have for newbie guitar players.
Coach Guitarrequires iOS 5.1 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
