Those of you in the market for a new car and who happen to be lucky enough to own Google Glass could well be in luck with the new Hyundai. The company announced yesterday that some of its next-generation models will be able to connect to Google Glass via an App that Hyundai are developing.
The App will allow Google Glass to connect to the car and be able to control some of the basic functions on the car itself, right from the headset.
The Google Glass App which will allow this handsfree connectivity will be released alongside its Genesis Sedan, which will be the first car to include the integration. Consumers who have a Google Glass and a 2015 Genesis will be able to use the App to connect to the vehicle to find it, start it, send addresses to the navigation system, and to control the central locking.
Hyundai also say that they will be using the App to send Google Glass users notifications on when the car is due for services and allow the user to quickly book an appointment initiating a call to the relevant service department.
“Wearables are a great way to extend the experience outside of the vehicle by leveraging these small screens to quickly access remote features and deliver timely vehicle information,”

Hyundai state that given the small screen real-estate Google Glass offers, only essential information will be displayed. Vehicle information will be presented as cards optimised for the Glass screen.
Hyundai already offer the Blue Link app for iOS and Android platforms and Hyundai says they see Google Glass as yet another platform they can utilise to display essential information to owners.
It will be interesting to see how Blue Link scales to a smaller screen, and if it offers the same level of convenience and information as the iOS and Android counterparts. Hyundai state they have been in the market of developing such applications since 2010 so assure that they will get the Google Glass App right.
In any breathe, having information available to the driver, as long as it doesn’t distract them, is fantastic, and being able to control it with Google Glass takes it to the next level.
