Has the Apple iWatch ship date been delayed into 2015? Not likely. In fact, both the iPhone (2007) and iPad (2010) ship dates followed their respective introductions by at least three months. Ditto that for the company’s (1998) original iMac and revolutionary 2013 Mac Pro.
And, for anyone that cares to remember, it took Apple more than a decade to actually ship a modern desktop operating system. Remember Copland, etc? A little waiting is hardly unheard of.
ReCode, which has been the source for most of these rumors, is now saying that the iWatch will be introduced September 9. However, the iWatch ship date won’t happen until 2015.
So that new wearable device Apple is introducing on September 9? It’s going to be a while before anyone is actually wearing it. Sources in position to know tell me it won’t arrive at market for a few months. “It’s not shipping any time soon,” said one. So when does Apple plan to ship its eagerly anticipated wearable? That’s not clear, but my understanding is that we’re unlikely to see it at retail until after the holiday season — think early 2015.
Not the happy surprise many were hoping for under the Christmas tree, but hardly unprecedented.
For example, the original iPad announcement preceded the original iPad ship date by about three months and the iPhone intro and ship were separated by six months. So, since we’re looking at a an entirely new product category for Apple, it makes sense that the iWatch ship date will come some months after its public introduction.
Take your money already? Yeah, but we still have to wait…
