Living Earth HD – World Clock and Weather for iPhone and iPad is an app that has finally fulfilled a long-held desire of mine to have a high-resolution live simulation of Earth from space running on my desk.
Developed by Moshen Chan, Living Earth HD is a truly amazing 3D simulation of our planet, showing the position of night and day, current cloud, snow and ice coverage all on a beautifully rendered globe floating in space. You can zoom in and out (to an extent) as well as change the speed and angle of the rotation by using a few simple and intuitive gestures.
I would have downloaded the app for the Earth simulation alone, but there’s also continuously updated weather information, sunrise and sunset times, current wind conditions and a 4 day forecast.
Living Earth HD currently has support for over 5400 cities, with many more to come soon.
Living Earth HD is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), and iPad. Requires iOS 3.2 or later.
