The Nexus 5 may not even be released yet, or do we know anything about it, other than a leaked picture confirming the existence of the device, but the Nexus 5 has beaten the Samsung Galaxy S4 and matched the iPhone 5S in graphics benchmark tests.

In what could easily be argued as one of the most exciting upcoming devices now the iPhone 5S has been released, the Nexus 5 is sure to be a graphics powerhouse if these leaked benchmarks are anything to go by.

The Nexus 5 easily outperforms the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One in performance, and the iPhone 5 isn’t even in the same league. The benchmark appeared on the GFXBench website, and they show the Nexus 5 obtaining a score of 23 points for graphic performance. The only other handset to match that score is the iPhone 5S.

Given the iPhone 5S has received a huge spec update over the iPhone 5, and it features the new A7 64-bit chip, could it be that Google have introduced 64-bit to their new Nexus 5 device?

The benchmark also revealed that the Nexus 5 will feature the latest Adreno 330 graphics processing unit, combined with a 2.2Ghz Quad-Core Snapdragon 800 processor, a 1080p display and the latest Android 4.4 KitKat.

The leaked score shows that the Nexus 5 is perfectly on par with Imagination Technologies’ 6 series of chips and the PowerVR G6430 found in the iPhone 5S. Both GPU’s support Open GL ES 3.0.

Of course, these are only leaked benchmarks and with any leak it needs to be kept in mind that they could be fake. Since we already know the iPhone 5S specs and it can be benchmarked, and given the Nexus 5 isn’t released yet, there is every chance the Nexus 5 could benchmark above or below the iPhone 5S when it is released.

Either way, it is food for thought, and makes the prospect of the Nexus 5 even more exciting.
