Picture Hangman: A Fun Take on Classic Hangman Games

Picture Hangman iPhone App Review

Price: $0.99    Score: 9/10   Category: Games

When I was a kid, my parents loved playing Pictionary and rebus-style wordgames with me. So it’s only natural that I’d enjoy the gameplay that Picture Hangman provides. Just released today, anyone looking for a fun new mobile game should definitely check this one out.
The object is simple: just like in Hangman, you need to select parts to guess at the whole. But while in Hangman you guess at letters in the alphabet that could be a part of the mystery word, Picture vHangman gives you tiny tiles to choose from, each with a small part of the entire image engraved on them (as well as a few red herring tiles to throw you off the scent).
There are, thankfully, three levels of difficulty, making the game suitable for kids and jaded adults alike. You get 5 strikes, and then you’re out. And on the hardest setting, that makes for challenging gameplay: some of the images have 25+ components, compared to the 10 or so components for Easy puzzles. While you may think the game sounds quite simple, you’ll be amazed at how fun and challenging guessing the picture can be.
The sound effects, by John Hughes for twune.com, are minimal and pleasant: neither distracting nor annoying, which is always a plus for mobile games.
You can also connect to Facebook to play with friends, which is a nice touch. That being said, it’s also a game that’s plenty of fun to play solo. And of course, once you get bored with the content, you can buy in-game upgrades to get an additional level pack of 50 images to help keep things fresh.
All in all, this simple game is a homerun. Challenging enough to keep you coming back for more, Picture Hangman is a timewaster with a serious pedigree. We think you’ll really enjoy playing with it.
Picture Hangman is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 4.0 or later. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this iPhone App Review.
